Mother's Day. March 14th, 2017

Origin of Mother's Day goes back to the era of ancient Greek and Romans.

"The earliest history of Mothers Day dates back to the annual spring festival the Greeks dedicated to maternal goddesses and especially to honor Rhea, wife of Cronus and the mother of many deities of Greek mythology". As far as 250 B.C. ancient Romans celebrated a spring festival, called Hilaria dedicated to Cybele, a mother goddess.

"The more recent history of Mothers Day dates back to 1600s in England. Here a Mothering Sunday was celebrated annually on the fourth Sunday of Lent (the 40 day period leading up to Easter) to honor mothers." But by mid 19th century the celebration almost completely died out.

The celebration as it is seen today is a recent phenomenon and started in 1908 when Anna Jarvis, a social activist, held a memorial for her mother.

Mother's Day is celebrated on different days in different countries. Second Sunday of May, 21 of March ( Spring Equinox) and 8 of March ( International Women's Day) are among the most popular dates.

This year it is on May 14th.

Flower are the most common Mother's Day gifts. Fresh and fragile, beautiful and elegant - they represent all the love and gratitude.

Roses, peonies, tulips, lilac - are among the most popular choices.
